Thanks for inviting!
As my recovery process continues and I get more and more acclimated, there are definitely a few mentally hurdles I need to clear.
The past 9 weeks have been brutal. Going back and forth, Indy to Boston, just so I can learn to run again. It’s hard to do it after you have been doing it for seven months or whatever. And when you did it before it hurt, so then naturally you’re like, “shit, I don’t want to do that. That will make me hurt.” But you’ve got to push through that.
I know there would be a hurdle when got back, for I haven’t played for quite a long time. Being back out there on the court and trying to just remember what it’s like, what to do, and feel like a basketball player again, that’s going to be a challenge at first. I’ve already gone through it with five-on-five, so I kind of know what to expect.
But when you get hurt like that, there are going to be lingering hesitations. But I know there is nothing that is going to fix the mental hurdle except for me going out there and actually jumping over the hurdle. But I know I am definitely going to be a little anxious going into it. And I feel like I’m just going to have to take the leap, and keep going.
I’ve never dealt with anything close to this type of injury in my career. I missed a few games here and there, but never close to this long. So I’m glad I have some teammates to turn to. I’ve been talking to Kyrie about it, and he tells me that it’s just about getting back out there and playing. There is nothing like playing the game. You can do all the drills and all this different stuff that you want. But you just have to get out there and play, and it will come back to you.
